EXAM FOUR: "...CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY."
For the first time in six weeks, a father reunites with his wife and kids. Their abrupt pause together was due to dad finally admitting that he had a gambling problem, and seeking professional help. The Christian family will have to re-start their life-savings, and college funds. But they are more than willing.
Now many others would also recommend that their current residence in Las Vegas be altered too! However, the "social gamble" of the mother's longtime and local friends feels too risky. The father and his car were missing ever since 2:00 am. He returned; but the car did not. It was a colorful night: An orange casino with a new pink slip sending a yellow husband home feeling blue with nothing green. And his wife turned red instantly.
After a long heated exchange, loud enough to reverse the lullaby to the children, the mother comes up with a plan. She wants to develop a covenant with God. Unable to control her husband, she proposes that every time he ventures off to gamble, that God just let him win. She will in turn, give all the earnings to a charity of God’s choice.
Will this work? Why or Why not?
