IN THE COOL OF THE DAY
Written by: Curtis Johnson Sr.
"In the beginning,” God used to come and fellowship with mankind: Adam at the time. And what followed was a daily chat and commune discussing the plans for how the world should be ran. Let us remember that God is boss as Adam was able to hear Him clearly. We know this because Adam was able to name all the animals in the earth by what their function was; it was by this meaning that He named them. With God, I believe everything has a function and a reason for its name. We see this naming process, according to its happening, throughout history. How else could these names have such significance except by listening to suggestions from God’s wisdom?
God said: Let us make man in our Image, which we have learned from His Word is in three (3) parts: (1) Spirit, (2) Soul, and (3) Body.
- Father = I AM (John 1:1)
- Son = The Word (John 1:14)
- Holy Spirit = The overseer of righteousness
Now our Bible teaches us that God is a Spirit. And those who worship Him must do so "in Spirit and Truth (John 4:24).” Adam was given dominion and naming authority on the earth. Conversely, his job was to tend to and keep the garden according to the Bible. Quite possibly this meant knowing and recognizing His voice (like Adam) "in the cool of the day." Remember He (God) was walking in the garden, in the cool of the day (Genesis 3: 8), and came to Adam and said "Adam where are you?” So this proves that Adam could hear and know God’s presence by His Spirit. It was around like the invisible wind, still able to hear by the results that followed Him being on the scene. Adam spoke to God after being questioned. So we know that God speaks to mankind, right? It was by man’s similar image and spiritual likeness of God, that Adam was able to hear from Him. To hear from God is the key here. That’s what prayer is for! Consider this instruction from Jesus himself.
Jesus said to pray like this (Matthew 6:9-13):
- Our Father, which art in Heaven
- Hallowed it be thy name
- The Kingdom come
- They will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven
- Give us this day, out daily bread
- And forgive us our debt as we forgive our debtors
- Lead us not into temptation
- But deliver us from evil
- For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the glory
- Forever and ever. Amen.
Simple Isn’t It? Well, let’s be "doers of the Word (James 1:22),” and pray like this, according to the Word of Jesus who represents God Himself, along with the mediating voice (Holy Spirit) that communicates God’s instruction In the Cool of the Day (John 14:21-24)
